Básico Pixoy Hotel is not a reinterpretation of the past, nor a replication of colonial grandeur. It is a departure. A new language of hospitality rooted in the raw beauty of its natural setting.
It all began with a search for a landscape. A place where the trees dictated the blueprint, where the soil and light shaped the architecture. Just beyond the city center’s neat cobbled squares, Básico Pixoy Hotel took root. A rare pocket of thick jungle-like foliage, layered shade, and a lush microclimate.
The project evolved. More endemic trees were planted, deepening the coolness, multiplying the layers of greenery that filter the light and transform the air. A design and architecture that flows, not imposing itself but integrating—responding to the land’s natural rhythms. The result: a contemporary, minimalist structure that meets the organic, where materials breathe in harmony with the climate.
NATURE AS A BLUEPRINT
Coursing through its structures is cal viva—a living lime mixed with the Pixoy tree resin using an ancestral technique that allows the walls to naturally regulate humidity. It cools in the extreme heat innovated to maintain airflow and comfort, ensuring the design works with the elements. Every space, every passageway opens to nature as an active presence.
WHERE MATERIAL MEETS PLACE
Against this raw, elemental canvas, the interiors bring texture, color, and craft into quiet conversation with the architecture. Each room is designed to be its own refuge. Built-ins are designed with both function and restraint, each element purposeful, each detail an echo of Mexican artisan knowledge.
Shades of Valladolid’s sunlit yellows and the pinks of its flamingo-dotted shores infuse warmth into the cool neutrality. Handmade pieces sourced from across the entire country lend depth—woven textiles, hand-glazed ceramics, carved woods—each piece carrying the weight of history, yet chosen for the contemporary moment.
